They aren’t just carbon copy of the Monster Cup cars either. Monster Games must have listened to the fans feedback because Heat 2 includes the Camping World Truck and Xfinity Series. One of my biggest requests last year was the inclusion of multiple series as they did way back in Dirt to Daytona. It made the racing that much more engaging. The AI feels smarter this year, it almost felt as if they knew where I was and where I was going to possibly go. What Heat 2 has going for it is that it’s still fun to race. Why bury them under a more hardcore mode? It’s not a real serious issue, but it is something that a potential fan of racing may want to know going in. As I did last year, I find this a rather strange condition to unlock car setups. Turn it off and you’ll also get access to options to car setups. This year they hid a “simulation” mode under the Stability Help setting. Sure you can adjust the sensitivity of the sticks as you could in last year’s game but I could never dial them in just right. Like last year’s Heat, you can access a more simulation setting but it’s not fun to drive with the controller’s joysticks. The game still has a good feel to it, even if the cars still feel like they are too tight around the turns. As I mentioned in last year’s review of Heat, this series straddles the line between Sim and Arcade and Heat 2 is no different. Last year’s Heat title was such a surprise and a good return to form for NASCAR on consoles. So NASCAR fan, should you shell out your hard earned money this year? The animation only goes 90° left or right and it changes based on how fast you are going. The only thing that can't be fixed is that the steering wheel animation doesn't match your input exactly when in cockpit view. Impact Effects shakes the wheel when you hit other cars or the wall. The force feedback is very light in this game, so I raise this to the maximum. Raising this will make the in-game wheel reach full lock before the actual wheel does. Steering Sensitivity should be left at 0. The sliders can go from -5, if fully to the left, all the way to +5, if all the way to the right. The default value is usually the center, which I will refer to as 0 in the following settings. The settings don't have any numerical values, just a simple slider. Even though this is set to 180°, it will still use the full 240° rotation. To work properly, the Rotation Angle needs to be less than what was set in the Thrustmaster Control Panel for some reason. As a general rule, I leave these at 100% since there are some games that require them.īOOST should always be turned off. Spring and Damper are not used by NASCAR Heat 2, so can be set to any value without issue. In this case, there simply is no other way to get this to work. Ordinarily, I don't like having to modify the driver-level rotation angle, as it is annoying to have to change it when you load up a different game. We can correct this by changing the rotation angle in the Thrustmaster Control Panel, which will provide the rotation lock, and modifying the in-game settings to match this. When the wheel keeps turning past that point, the game just doesn't feel right and the cars are harder to control as a result. In NASCAR, however, the steering angle is very small and you will frequently hit the maximum rotation angle. In some games, the lack of a Soft Lock feature isn't that big of a deal because you only very rarely reach that point. The big issue with NASCAR Heat 2 is setting the steering angle correctly.
